With the Art Direction and Content Decided, I began sketching what my Immersive Prototype would look like.
The first sketch I did was a wireframe of the overall flow of the experience, from screen to screen.
This first set of sketches shows the home screen, which uses a similar style to that of my style tile, taking heavy inspiration from the annual I had looked at. This would then allow users to start the main experience, or navigate to an “Influence” or “Timeline” page.
When the main experience was selected, it would navigate to the intro “title sequence”, in the style of the Thunderbirds titles sequence. This would utilise the launch video and introduce the astronauts to the user. This was the part I was least sure about from the start and was already questioning whether it would be really needed. I decided to keep it in the sketches and try it digitally later.

This second set was into the main content pages, starting with a simple and brief background text scroll before moving into move stylised content for each section. At this stage for all I was mainly just blocking out where each bit of content would sit, and some of the ideas for imagery were not 100% yet. I liked the idea of changing parts of the style (ie colour, layout, scroll direction) between sections to give each part a unique feel. While this was something I could only somewhat show in sketches, I noted to explore this more digitally later.

In this set of wireframes, the “Journey Home” screen was a new addition by me to the content provided the project. I used some of the content originally meant for the “One Small Step” screen which fit better into this screen, along with some new content. I added this because I felt the story jumped too quickly from the moon to earth without it, so it’s addition made sense narratively.

The last two wireframes here show the other two experiences of the prototype. The Influence page, which would show movies and tv shows inspired by the Apollo mission, and specifically the work of Gerry Anderson who created Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. The Apollo Project page would be a timeline of all Apollo missions, using the content from the “Data” page provided to us.

These sketches proved to be incredibly useful for this project as they really helped me to realise the flow early on. While I would go onto sketch more for each section, these initial sketches were definitely the base of what my whole prototype was built off.
With these sketches completed, I now moved onto sketching some of illustrative aspects of the project.
