Planning Illustrations

From my wireframe sketches and sectioned content, I had broken down what illustrations I would need for the project.

Line Drawings

Ink Drawings

The Line Drawings would be simplified vector drawings, while the Ink Drawings would be more complex drawings, resembling the type seen in the 60s annual artwork.

I sketched out roughly what my illustrations were going to look like to help me realise what I needed to do.

The first drawing I started on was the Saturn V in flight. To do this, I used Procreate, a software I wasn’t overly familiar with. While tricky at first, I was really pleased with the end result of this illustration. Although slightly more expressive, I felt it was similar to something you’d see in an annual. The only issue was the time it took me to do this one. While it wasn’t too long, it felt too long for something I wasn’t 100% sure I’d use. I decided now to keep this one and wait until I had used it in the design before creating more, as to not waste my time.

Line Drawings

The line drawings were far easier to do, being mostly traces of photos. These were really effective and really liked the simplicity of the style.

With my illustrations largely finished, I could now move onto looking at some animation.
