After our seminars, I was happy to select idea 3 as my idea to take forward for my major project. I took a bit of time to add in some ideas from the seminar to adjust the idea before getting into planning.

Idea 3

There is an incredible difference in the quality of digital services between different public transport networks. Great systems are expensive which is ok for massive cities, but smaller cities don’t have the budget for it. Could we create an all in one, best practice solution for cities that could grab off the shelf, rebrand, and deploy as their digital service for public transport. This could also incorporate sub-networks, such as shuttle bus services. Users would be able to use a centralised app, that would automatically update whenever they moved into an area where certain transport networks were available.

Problem Statement

I am person who uses public transport and I’m trying to use the networks digital service to plan and pay for my journey but it is a poor experience compared to other cities because my city isn’t big enough to afford a good system which makes me feel frustrated.

I’ve just arrived in a new city and I’m trying to download the cities transport app but my connection is poor because of data roaming which makes me feel frustrated.

I am an executive at a public transport network and I’m trying to decide how we improve our digital services but I have a limited budget because of economic restrictions which makes me feel restricted and frustrated.

Description

An off-the-shelf all-in-one solution for cities to brand and deploy for their public transport digital services. Services could include mapping, timetabling, and ticketing etc from a single platform. It would use best practice techniques from other transport networks and scale appropriately to city size.

Outcomes could include a user facing centralised app to access transport networks from city wide networks to small shuttle bus services. Additional outcomes could include the CMS-esque platform for networks.

Target Market

Small to medium sizes transport networks.

People who regularly use public transport.

Network staff responsible for management and mobility.
