I recently attended a Belfast Design event with a talk from Damian Gribben on “Designing AI Agent Interactions”. A really interesting idea the talk focussed on was the idea of designing AI agents that would complete design tasks, rather than doing the design tasks yourself. The talk explored this process, getting into a lot of the technical detail. This was really interesting glimpse into the possible future of design, focussing on designing and setting up automation tools like agental AI rather than doing the design ourselves. This still requires the knowledge of designer, but puts the focus on creating solutions that are repeatable and teachable.

Another interesting point about AI agents raised was personality. The UX of the AI agent itself needs to be considered and like in normal design, tone of voice is important. Two examples were shown: Claude; and Claude Code. Both are from the same LLM, but Claude focusses on general use but Claude Code is designed for developer use. Because of this, Claude has a much more friendly and personal tone that Claude Code, that is far more direct and robotic. This fits the use of each, with users of Claude Code valuing efficiency and directness more. I think these parts of brand UX are going to have really interesting developments in the next few years as AI is more widely adopted, and the same concepts evolve in new ways.
