Creating a brand for a politically neutral platform was a very restrictive experience, as it had to have no affiliation to any sort of political ideas. Also, because this was a pitch for a future product, it was hard to truly build up a complete brand.

I started by coming up with some sort of name to give to the brand. I came up with “Polispec”; the “poli” being derived from “politics” and the “spec” being derived from “spectrum”. I though this worked well as it felt neutral and illustrated the point of my project well, that there should be more than a 50/50 split in politics and that a spectrum of opinions is important when making a functional society.

I also sketched a potential brand mark, which was essentially and single axis of a graph. This was simple and could have some interesting usage, as the length of the line could be changed to fit different uses, without detracting from the visuals of the mark.

For a typeface for the brand, I decide on Alfabet. Again, it felt neutral but had some interesting modern variations in stroke width that made it feel fresh. It felt serious without being boring, and modern without being funky.

The last step of the brand was to translate the name and mark into digital, which I felt worked really well with the typeface. I went for just black and white as a pallete, as it’s almost impossible to find a colour that doesn’t have some sort of political relevance already, so black and white felt neutral.

Having the brand established would now help me to design the slides, as it gave me a base style to work with.
