To help me improve my banking brand, I found examples of other brands and examined specific aspects of them, which should be helpful in getting me to think more and understand further the choices I have to make.
I really liked this colour choice for the Architects’ Council of Europe and thought it was really effective at both looking bold and mature. The usage of a deep turquoise rather than black to contrast against the yellow is really effective as it really stands out, but is much more applicable to the wider brand than black would. I could see myself using similar colours in my project, but perhaps reversed, as I feel the yellow wouldn’t feel as secure or strong for a banking brand. As blue is often associated with security and protection, this deep teal could be a really effective twist on that idea which help the brand stand out.
Brewbike is a coffee company in the US that have a really effective and unique brand which is aimed at my audience in different and slightly unorthodox ways. While the logo and wordmark would insinuate it is aimed towards the young adult market, the rest of the branding uses initially traditional style design, however with loose free hand addition with add freshness and funkiness to the brand which would really appeal to that market. It’s a really nice combination of styles and ideas which overall makes an effective brand which would appeal to that younger audience.
I thought this branding for the Spruce banking app was particularly nice and unique. The brand design is mature but modern, and I think fits in with the current popular aesthetics amongst young people. The usage of green is something not seen a lot in banking, but working well here to give the idea of growth, while also allowing it to stand out. For what appears to be quite a mature style of the brand, the tone of voice used is pretty casual, which makes the brand feel relaxed, which I think is really effective at creating a modern style of banking brand.
I think if you put both my brand values and Alcoholic Vodka’s brand values side by side they wouldn’t be the same, but I think the overall goal of Alcoholic Vodka’s brand in their industry, matches what I want my brand to do in the banking industry. Alcoholic Vodka tells it how it is and doesn’t shy away from showing exactly what the product is and its dangers. In the same sense, I want my brand to show exactly how these savings and investment accounts work, and provide the most amount of clarity and helpfulness. I think this brand is really effective at how it sticks to its values and thinks while they aren’t the same values, they are a similar respective of industry.
