With both User Personas and User Journey Planning complete, I could now create User Journey Maps.
The first part of this process was to create a set of maps for the person with dementia going about their day. I created one for each stage of the day; morning, noon, and night; based off the house route maps I had created earlier. These were really useful and helped me to realise where a smart home system would need to intervene. As per my research, when looking at opportunities on the User Journey Maps I made sure the recommendations I was making were more passively assistive rather than controlling or taking over from the user. This also helped me to think about where the system would actually interact with the user, and where it would act invisibly, maybe just to record data or make minor assists. Overall this was really useful and helped me to understand the routine of someone with dementia even more while thinking ahead to solutions.

The second part of this process was a Map for the Carer side. This was only one map and focussed on broader themes and ideas. While the patient side would be actively interacting with them throughout the day, the carer side would most likely act a dashboard tracker for the carer. This helped to understand that this would need to be more than just a dashboard, but would also need to provide peace of mind and emotional care for the carer.
