I spent quite a bit of time exploring typefaces for this project. I felt it was really important to select a strong display typeface which would represent the 60s futurism while not being too stylised as to not appear to be directly copying that era. These were some of the typefaces I considered while exploring, in particular, Nasalisation and Evelon were front runners for my choice. I felt both of these were good picks, but neither felt perfect for the style I was going for.
The typeface I ended up choosing was Eurostile, in particular, the condensed version of it, as I felt it was synonymous with that era and style, while still being modern. This is actually the typeface that was used for almost all of the credits for both Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, so fitted the style perfectly while not being too stylised within that era. With the display type decided, I wanted to find a body type for the majority of the content.
I took some time to explore a typeface for body text, and came to these 3 typefaces. While similar, all these typefaces were still quite different, so I wanted to make sure to choose the right one.
To decide on a typeface, I laid up a short paragraph and title using Eurostile and each of the 3 body types. When looking at it like this, I felt that the second one, Altivo worked best with Eurostile, as the slightly more pronounced and curved parts complimented Eurostiles more cold and static feel.
