I wanted to explore a lot of styles for children’s content as I felt it would be really important to have a distinct style to aid engagement. I started by exploring the illustration work of some of the children’s books I had when I was a child.

<aside> 💭 J Otto Seibold’s illustrations were one of the first examples I thought could be a good inspiration for this project. I had looked at his work during last year’s IxD104 module and thought the graphic style of the illustrations could translate well to an interactive experience. I really like the line work along with the almost surrealist framing and objects within the illustrations. I also think the colour and typography here is superb, as it’s so unique. I think it will be really important to have a distinct style for this project as it will help engagement and make the experience stick in the memory more.

<aside> 💭 I really like the simplicity of the illustration work by Paul Rand, especially the blend of simplicity and more complex patterns. I think some of this style could work really well for the storytelling aspects of this project, as it would help to have a simplistic style which doesn’t distract from the content.

<aside> 💭 I really love Jeffers character illustrations due to how simple they are. He’s able to show so much in the face with just minimal line work. I think the contrast of the simplistic faces and more complex surrounding illustrations works really well at building an interesting and intriguing world and is something I’ll consider exploring in this project.
