To start the project off, I wanted to research the Sustainable Development Goals as I didn’t know much about them. Because of how much there is about them, I think it’s vitally important for me to understand the content well so that I can create a successful project.

What are the SDG’s?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. These goals are interconnected and aim to tackle issues ranging from poverty, inequality, and climate change to access to education, healthcare, and sustainable economic growth. They provide a framework for governments, businesses, and communities to work together towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

1. No Poverty

   • Aim: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
   • This goal targets eradicating extreme poverty, implementing social protection systems, and ensuring equal rights to ownership and basic services.

2. Zero Hunger

   • Aim: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
   • Goals include ending malnutrition, doubling agricultural productivity, and ensuring sustainable food production systems.

3. Good Health and Well-being

   • Aim: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
   • Targets involve reducing maternal mortality, ending epidemics, and providing universal health coverage.

4. Quality Education

   • Aim: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
   • This goal aims to provide access to free primary and secondary education, and improve vocational skills for employment.

5. Gender Equality

   • Aim: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
   • Targets include ending discrimination, eliminating violence, and ensuring equal participation and opportunities.

6. Clean Water and Sanitation

   • Aim: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
   • Goals involve achieving universal access to safe and affordable drinking water and improving water quality.

7. Affordable and Clean Energy

   • Aim: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
   • Targets include increasing the share of renewable energy and enhancing energy efficiency.

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

   • Aim: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
   • Goals involve achieving full and productive employment and ensuring decent working conditions.

9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

   • Aim: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and foster innovation.
   • Targets involve upgrading infrastructure, enhancing scientific research, and supporting small-scale industries.

10. Reduced Inequality

    • Aim: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
    • This goal focuses on empowering and promoting social, economic, and political inclusion.

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

    • Aim: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
    • Targets include ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, and providing sustainable transport systems.

12. Responsible Consumption and Production

    • Aim: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
    • Goals involve reducing waste generation and promoting sustainable practices in industries and businesses.

13. Climate Action

    • Aim: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
    • Targets include strengthening resilience, integrating climate change measures into policies, and promoting education on climate change.

14. Life Below Water

    • Aim: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
    • Goals involve preventing marine pollution, protecting marine ecosystems, and promoting sustainable fisheries.

15. Life on Land

    • Aim: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.
    • Targets include combating poaching and trafficking, promoting sustainable forest management, and restoring degraded lands.

16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

    • Aim: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.
    • Goals involve reducing violence, ensuring access to justice, combating corruption and illicit financial and arms flows.
