Due to the geometric nature of the logo, I thought a good approach to the brand's application would be to use the shapes of the logo to form new aspects for the brand (inspired by Channel 4). The first thing I created was a simple repeating pattern and angled it at 30 degrees. I thought this would be a good way to apply the brand as it could be used in various scenarios and would be more creative than just putting the logo on things (inspired by KKVIFF). I also thought it worked well at representing the brand values and mission statement, as it is such a solid structure of the logo.
The next way I explored the logo was by cutting the shapes out of black paper and experimenting with arrangements to see how I could form new icons. This went really well and was a good starting point which allowed me to freely explore the shapes and how they fit together.

I think these could work well both in applications such as advertising and in the app and landing screen side of the project. It also shows the idea that the brand helps you build towards new things and financial stability with the brand’s logo literally building new things.
With the pattern and general icon style realised, began creating mockups of the brand’s application.
The first application I created was a bank card. I thought the use of just the pattern on the front made for a stylish card and made it feel more secure as it had no details on the front. I also had this idea that every bank card was a randomly generated version of the pattern, with the angle, scale, and colour arrangement being different on each person's card. When I talked to my tutor about this, we had talked about how the pattern could be changed or moved by the user themselves, however, in my week 8 critique, a fellow student had said that they liked the visual appeal of the cards, and in particular how it’s uniqueness would get other people to ask users what bank’s card it was. While the idea of letting users pick would also be a good idea, I think the randomly assigned pattern would be a more interesting way to take this part of the project. Having it be random I think makes it more desirable, as technically multiple users could have designed the exact same card themselves. I think the random card design would work well from a desirability standpoint, and makes the user's experience with the brand feel more unique, as they have a unique style of the pattern which is theirs. It also reflects the idea that every user's finacial situation and goals are unique. I also had the idea that whatever pattern the user has on their card could carry over into wherever the pattern is used on the app, and that it could be possible for the random pattern to be used as some sort of security check by scanning the front of the card.
