Because I had been designing with prototyping in mind, it was actually a fairly simple prototyping process. It still took ages because of how much there was to prototype, but I did not have to set up smart animations while prototyping because I had already done that, which meant I could focus more on the speeds and interactions.

There were some restrictions Figma had when it came to prototyping. Namely, the games were pretty hard to prototype. For some, like the prologue game and the quizzes, I was able to make them nearly fully prototyped, but for a lot, I had to just make them tappable through prototypes, or have them animated through delays. This was just something that has to be that way with Figma, and is something I could explore more in the future, but for now, I think I was able to get my point across pretty well.

The other restriction I faced with Figma was sections with branching paths. After the prologue, you’d ideally be able to choose whichever of the four goals you’d like to complete in which ever order. This would be very challenging to do in Figma due to the size of the project, so I opted for just making the prototype linear.

I was really pleased with my finished prototype. I feel I was able to achieve what I wanted to and it worked as an engaging way of getting kids to learn about the SDGs. While there were some restrictions when it came to prototyping, I think I was able to show enough to get the idea. This was probably the most ambitious project I’ve done so far, because of the unconventional style, but I’ve really loved doing it. I’ve had so many beautiful children’s books I’ve always had in my mind to use as inspiration for a project and I’ve finally been able to use them. I’ve loved getting to explore more fun and expressive styles for digital products and has made me more confident in my ability to push the visual styles of what I’m designing.
