I’ve really enjoyed this module. It’s felt like a big step up from last year in terms of the complexity of the content we’ve been taught and felt more challenged both in the learning and the projects for the module. I’ve found learning a lot of design process techniques to be really interesting and massively beneficial to my project work, as well as discovering a lot about content design.
It’s hard for me to pick a favourite project from this module, as I really enjoyed both the Autonomous Vehicle Project and the SDG Project for different reasons. The Autonomous Vehicle Project was a project I really felt that I was understanding while doing it, and is a project I’ve utilised the proper design process the most. This was a really enjoyable thing for me, as I felt very in control when working through this project, and I liked feeling that I had a solid reason to back up every design choice. It’s definitely the most considered UI I’ve created and I had a lot of fun getting to explore more speculative design during it. If I had more time for this project, I would have liked to explore the app component more, as it would have been nice to have a fully complete service, but that’s maybe something I could look at in the future.
I also loved the SDG project for this module, as it was a really interesting topic, and I got to really let loose with my approach. I put way more focus into visuals than I ever have for a project, and pushed myself to design in a style that was out of my comfort zone. Part of the reason I’ve enjoyed this module so much is because of the combination of the Autonomous vehicle and SGD Projects in my approach. I go to work in such varying styles this semester which helped to motivate me to push myself as far as possible.
I’ve also enjoyed the lecture topics and content as well this module, in particular, the weeks around Heuristic Evaluation and User Testing. I feel up to now I’ve only really thought about the more creative side of design, and getting to see how design can be treated with mathematical and factual consideration was a really interesting topic. It’s something I want to explore more in the future as I can see how important a topic it is, but still getting to consider it now has been really beneficial in showing me a different side to the thinking around design.
Overall I’ve enjoyed this module a lot as it was incredibly varied, not only in the project, but also in the lecture content as it has allowed me to view design in new ways.
