I had previously considered Monteiro’s idea that we are the ones with the ability to create design and, thus are the ones with the power to say “No” when faced with unethical tasks in design, but how does this apply now that AI is becoming more common and we may be more replaceable. If our work can be replaced with AI when we stand up to unethical decisions, the power to say “No” is no longer relevant. I think this means there should be a shift in mindset around this idea from what Monteiro suggests. I think now we don’t have the luxury of saying “No” and it is our responsibility to say “Yes” and change from the inside, rather than letting AI do the dirty work.
This is a really interesting concept which I want to explore more. I’ll definitely revisit this in the future as there’s a lot more to explore but I just wanted to write something about this to come back to.
